PEBA Statement Re House Bill 6195 by Representative Ma. Theresa Bonoan - David

PEBA, Inc., a global organization will continue to sound the voice of the OFWs using Social Media as our platform. As an advocate of the Overseas Filipino Workers, we strongly denounce the proposed bill of Rep. Ma. Theresa Bonoan-David amend the Republic Act 8042 and to add and collect 50$ fee for each departing OFW. We consider this as an additional burden for the already heavily laden workers.

We implore Hon. Bonoan-David to retract this bill or we will continue to raise our blogs and walls to protect the OFWs from this thoughtless proposition, you will then be held accountable before millions of Filipinos who have a member of their families working abroad.

May this will serve as a warning to any agencies and government officials that we remain vigilant and will voice our disagreement to issues that directly affects the OFWs.

PEBA Help Comfort Global Kababayans

"Hello! Michael, this is _____________ from PEBA Help, we are a group of bloggers reaching out to our fellow OFW's around the world. How is everything in Sana'a Yemen? Can you update us about the situation and how are the Filipino's doing in that location?"

Typical introduction, same words spoken, except changing the names and locations. * Jenny, a nurse in Bahrain, *Christine a teacher in Tokyo, Japan, and Ramil, a draftsman in Qatif Saudi Arabia.

PEBA Help is not that big, we don't have that much fund as well, but we are trying our best to help distressed OFW's around the world.

"Okay naman po dito. Magulo kasi palaki ng palaki ang nag-rarally. Kahapon nga may namatay na isa. Pumunta na dito yung isang Consul galing Saudi Arabia at dito na nga naglalagi, nilista na ang mga pangalan namin, at tinatanong kami kung sino ang uuwi ng libre" answered by Michael, an auto-mechanic working in Hyundai, Yemen.

"Magulo na po dito, nagrarally pa rin po, araw-araw ang daming dinadala sa ospital na sugatan. may pinalabas na po na ang advisory ang Embassy ng Pilipinas sa Bahrain para sa mga Pinoy dito" replied by *Jenny working as a staff nurse in Manama, Bahrain.

"Kanina may mga machine gun at tangke na nakaposte sa may kalsada, at maraming nakapaikot na militar dito sa tapat namin. Dito kasi sa tapat namin ung rally. Hindi na kami lumalabas pag may rally" reported by Ramil, based in Qatif Saudi Arabia where rallies are being held.

The most heart breaking moment was when we called, *Christine, an English teacher in one of the schools in Japan near the border Tochigi Prefecture. "Suspended po ang work namin ngayon, hindi na po kami pinapasok ng company namin dahil daw sa threat ng radiation, nagpapanic buying na po dito, nagkakaubusan na ng tubig at mga pagkain. Ang ibang Pinoy po, nag-iipon-ipon na kasi maya't maya po may lindol, mga aftershocks, at kaiissue lang po ng warning na may paparating na naman na Tsunami." We can feel the trembling in her voice, and the fears of whatever lies ahead.

We ask her to calm down, and asked if she was able to contact her family in the Philippines, and provide her contact details of Philippine embassies in Japan.

What do we usually do is contact people, we called them, assess the situation and refer them to consulates, Bantay OFW, Blas Ople Policy Center, Migrante and other groups and agencies that can help in the situation. Small ways, but it always starts from there.

PEBA Help is another social project of PEBA, Inc, helping distressed Filipino's around the world.

Wherever we are, we hope and pray that each of us will be safe from any harm and danger, and that we can continue to move on with our lives, providing for our families, and one day be back home and enjoy together with them. God bless po ang mga OFW's around the globe!

A Prayer for OFWs

Dear God,

You crossed every border between divinity and humanity to make your home with us. Bless our fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters who have travelled to foreign lands with faith in their heart leaving their families behind as they break through the barriers of people, cultures, and languages to escape oppression and poverty.

There are many things going on that are beyond us even with our collective power. We come to thee in supplication and heartfelt pleadings as we are mindful of the ordeals of others.

We thank thee for hearing the prayers of your people as China grant reprieve to our three OFWs and may the Chinese government grant a lesser penalty to their case.

We pray for the thousands of OFWs who were incarcerated and imprisoned in the Middle East, Asia and other continents, may thou please grant them the chance to get back to their families and find a new life, justice and freedom as they entrust their lives into thy hands. May Thou enlighten our leaders to put the plights of distressed OFWs as a priority and withdraw from plans to cut the DFA social service and legal assistance funds.

We pray to Thee that our OFWs in Taiwan will soon be reprieved of taking all the heat of the current Taiwan-Philippines rift. May the government emissary would soon find resolution to this issue so that those more than five thousand scheduled for deployment will now be allowed to take on their jobs, and the nearly a hundred thousand currently employed may keep their jobs and be able to sustain their families.

We pray that may Thou please keep our overseas Filipinos safe in the escalating conflict in countries where democratic renaissance in Muslim nations is unfolding from Morocco, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain and Libya as they await the immediate repatriation efforts being taken by our government agencies.

We pray for Thy protection and guidance of the more than thirty thousand OFW’s in Libya. May their families in the Philippines be freed from fear and worries of their condition and that the OFWs safety is assured despite the worsening condition.

We pray that may Thou save from harm our Filipino workers in war torn countries of Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as OFWs in Nigeria, Somalia, Lebanon and Jordan, who have taken great risks to continue their fight against poverty to support their families in the Philippines despite of the work deployment ban imposed in these countries.

We pray for the safety of the Filipino nurses trapped in the rubbles during the earthquake in New Zealand, and the rest of the OFWs and Expats around the world who are suffering from natural calamities, diseases and injustices that they may find comfort through faith in Thee.

Hear our prayer Lord, to end the corruption that has become the plague of our nation, to end poverty that afflicts and besets Thy people, to end violence and war that displaces millions of our Filipinos from their homes, which separate, divide and break families.

As we await for the signs of time when the Filipinos around the world, the fathers and mothers brothers and sisters, and sons and daughters may be reunited as one happy family.

We pray for Thine tender love and kind mercy, with our faith, with our hope, with our love to thee, we pray for power greater than us all, we pray for divine intervention.
