A Filipino nurse was recently arrested in Vancouver, Canada after he and another Filipino nurse were accused of molesting a 98-year-old woman in San Diego, California two years ago.
CBCNews reported on January 14, 2014 that Russel Olvena Torralba had been charged in
California with elder neglect and committing a lewd act upon a dependent adult.
The charges against Torralba stemmed “from a shocking incident caught on video in which Torralba and another male nurse were allegedly seen fondling each other while touching a 98-year-old stroke victim who lay helpless in the bed beside them,” the report said.
Torralba and the other Filipino nurse, identified as Alfredo Ruiz, were hired by the elderly woman’s family to work in her home.
Torralba and Ruiz’s licenses had been suspended.
After allegedly committing the act against the elderly woman, Torralba fled to Vancouver. He reportedly reached Canada by car in August before he was slapped with charges.
While in Vancouver, Torralba managed to find a job as a live-in caregiver for a seven-year-old boy suffering from fetal alcohol syndrome, CBCNews said in its report dated January 13, 2014.
