The Philamlife Theater and Lobby
Since its inauguration in 1961, the Philamlife Theater has been the premier venue for many artistic performances. With a seating capacity of 737, the theater is most admired for its near-perfect acoustics making it an ideal venue for classical concertos, recitals and musical productions.
The state-f-the-art acoustics is made by Bolt, Beranek & Newman, the same group who built the acoustics for the Sydney Opera House in Australia.
Through the years, the theater has also become a popular venue for important conferences, graduation rites and warding ceremonies like the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award.
World-renowned artists like Cecile Licad, Gilopez Kabayao, Andion Fernandez, the Philippine Madrigal Singers, the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra, among others have also rendered many memorable performances in the theatre.
With deep regard for history and talent of the Filipino artist, Philamlife also houses some of the country’s significant Filipino artworks. Lining the theater walls are wooden mural carvings depicting various scenes from the Philippine history. It is created by artist Jose Alcantara and carved by artisans from Paete, Laguna.
Displayed at the lobby are huge oil paintings by the late bational Artist Vicente Manansala and a sixteen-foot stained mosaic of the Sarimanok by National Artist Galo B. Ocampo. The northeast lobby provides an exhibit area for both established and aspiring artist.
With regular performances and exhibits, Philamlife continues its tradition of developing and promoting various activities of artistic and cultural significance.
